Sandiaga Uno Responds To Criminal Threats For Couples Who Are Not Married But Staying At A Hotel

JAKARTA - Recently the virtual world or social media was shocked by one of the drafts of the Criminal Code Bill. Where couples without marriage ties are not allowed to stay at the hotel.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno admitted that he received a lot of input from tourism business actors regarding the Draft Criminal Code (RUU KUHP). They generally oppose the adultery article which prohibits unmarried couples from staying in hotels.

Many tourism actors object to the proposed regulation, which can discourage foreign tourists from coming to Indonesia. Those who come not with an official partner may worry that they will be subject to criminal charges. Entrepreneurs engaged in the tourism sector immediately lobbied Sandiaga Uno.

"We accommodate all inputs, especially those related to the fact that several articles are considered counterproductive to the tourism sector," said Sandiaga Uno, Tuesday, October 25.

According to the former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, his party continues to discuss with Commission X of the House of Representatives or DPR.

Sandiaga appealed to creative economy actors and the public to remain calm and maintain a conducive situation. According to Sandiaga Uno, the bill is currently still in the process of being discussed in the House of Representatives (DPR).

So, input from the public, especially hoteliers can still be considered to influence the final decision in the DPR.

"We have received input from the PHRI (Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association) from several business actors and the creative economy, especially business actors in tourist destinations. Of course, we will convey all of these inputs to colleagues in the DPR," said Sandiaga.

"We appreciate the input from the PHRI and other parties. We have also discussed this with the Deputy Governor of Bali regarding the Draft Criminal Code, what are the impacts on our tourism, including in Bali which is visited by many foreign tourists, "he concluded.
