MRT Jakarta Plants Replacement Trees Affected By Phase 2A Project

JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta's BUMD planted thousands of replacement trees because they were affected by the MRT Jakarta construction project in Phase 2A of the Harmoni - Mangga Besar 202 Package Contract.

"One of the construction preparation works is the handling of trees affected by the construction and until October 9, 2022, there have been several replacements and relocations," said PT MRT Jakarta Corporate Secretariat Division Head Rendi Alhilal as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 10.

According to Rendi, the trees were affected by the construction project of Harmoni Station, Sawah Besar Station, and Mangga Besar Station in Contract Package 202 (CP202) of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A since 27 July 2022.

PT MRT Jakarta noted that until October 9, 2022, the activities for handling affected trees, replacement, and relocation are:

• A total of 1,531 replacement trees have been replanted from a total of 5,170 trees to replace 517 trees affected by the construction of the Harmoni – Mangga Besar station.
• The replacement tree planting area is gradually carried out as determined by the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service, namely in the Nursery area, Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta.
• A total of 32 trees have been relocated out of a total of 33 trees that must be moved.
• The replacement tree replanting and tree relocation activities are carried out at the same time and have followed the provisions set by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Parks and Forests Office.

"Every tree that is replaced and relocated will be cared for and maintained according to applicable regulations in order to fulfill the responsibility for sustainable environmental conservation," said Rendi.

In addition, PT MRT Jakarta also continues to coordinate regularly with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Parks and Forest Service during the handling of affected trees.

CP202 is one of the construction work segments of the Jakarta MRT phase 2A with the scope of work covering the construction of Harmoni Station, Sawah Besar Station, and Mangga Besar Station, as well as underground tunnels from Harmoni to Mangga Besar for 1.8 kilometers.

The replanting and replacement of affected trees was carried out by PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) together with the implementing contractor Shimizu-Adhi Karya Joint Venture (SAJV).

This is an effort to maintain the carrying capacity of the environment by ensuring that the construction work carried out complies with applicable regulations in order to maintain environmental resilience and sustainability.
