East Aceh Floods: 2,436 People Displaced, 1,276 Houses Affected

ACEH - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of refugees due to flooding in East Aceh Regency was 2,436 people.

Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that most of the residents took refuge in Balai Dusun, Meunasah, Mosques, and Dayah.

"Temporary information, there were 1,276 families (KK) or 4,764 affected people and 1,276 houses inundated. This information was reported by the BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) based on data from the East Aceh Regency BPBD", Abdul said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Sunday, August 9.

The six sub-districts in East Aceh, Aceh Province, which were hit by floods were Pante Bidari, Punaron, Birem Bayeun, Indra Makmur, Nurussalam, and Banda Alam sub-districts.

Until now, flooding is still inundated in several areas with heights varying to 150 centimeters or cm.

The BPBD of East Aceh Regency will immediately conduct cross-sectoral coordination regarding efforts to accelerate emergency handling. In addition, joint officers also remain on standby to monitor several locations that are still experiencing an increase in water discharge.

Based on information from the BMKG weather forecast for the next three days, on Monday 10 October, the East Aceh region still has the potential to rain with light to moderate intensity accompanied by lightning.

Therefore, BNPB appealed to the public to increase vigilance and preparedness.

Residents are expected to check the water discharge periodically when there is heavy rain for a long period of time. Residents can also self-evacuate to a safer place to avoid the potential danger of hydrometeorological disasters.
