JAKARTA - Most of the Temanggung Regency area in Central Java Province is mountainous and hilly which is prone to landslides, said the local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) official.

As reported by Antara, Wednesday, December 2, the Head of BPBD for Temanggung Regency, Dwi Sukarmei, said that among the 20 sub-districts in Temanggung Regency, there are three that are most prone to landslides, namely Kaloran, Kledung, and Gemawang.

"Actually, almost all districts in Temanggung are prone to landslides, but the three districts are the most prone to landslides and frequent landslides," he said in Temanggung.

According to him, landslides occur almost every year in the Kaloran, Kledung and Gemawang Districts.

"Based on available data, 50 percent of landslides in the three sub-districts occurred on agricultural land and 50 percent occurred in settlements," he said.

Dwi appealed to residents living in areas prone to landslides to increase their vigilance during the rainy season.

"Recognize the signs, increase alertness, don't be careless," he said.

The rain that fell on Tuesday, December 1, according to him, caused a landslide in the Post Village, Pegergunung Village, Pringsurat District; Tleter Hamlet, Tleter Village, Kaloran District; and Porot Hamlet, Getas Village, Kaloran District. The disaster caused three houses to be slightly damaged and caused no casualties.
