JAKARTA - The Surabaya City Government is trying to reduce the possibility of fallen trees due to strong winds when entering the transition of seasons or transitions. The city government began to cut trees on protocol roads.

"In a number of places, DLH (Environmental Service) has trimmed trees to minimize the impact of fallen trees due to strong winds," said Deputy Mayor of Surabaya Armuji in Surabaya, Wednesday, October 5.

For this reason, his party asked the residents of Surabaya to inform if they met a dense tree so that pruning it could be done by contacting the lurah, local sub-district head or Call Center 112.

In addition to pruning, he said, the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) is preparing for the rainy season, including the construction of a channel or installation of a box culvert at 55 points in the city of Surabaya.

"The work on the canal managed to make several areas prone to flooding, now there is no overflow of water," he said.

Cak Ji, Armuji hopes that the construction of the channel can be accelerated so that it can be completed as scheduled.

"We hope that when the rainy season comes, Surabaya residents can calm down," said Cak Ji as quoted by Antara.

He stated that the city government also mapped flood-prone areas, inundation and traffic jams when heavy rains occurred so that alternative settlements could be found.

Not only that, but his party will also check the readiness of pump houses and dredging existing channels in villages.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Tanjung Perak Surabaya Maritime previously noted that there were no signs of the rainy season, but what is currently happening is the transition of the season or transition. However, the rain still has the potential to fall.

Tanjung Perak Maritime BMKG weather forecaster Adi Hermanto said the rainy season is predicted to occur in November. "Throughout October, the season is still changing. However, there is a tendency for the weather to be weter than yesterday's dry season," he said.

According to him, there are several factors that cause rain to fall during the current transition period of the season, one of which is the La Nina effect which causes the atmosphere to be weter. La Nina causes the water vapor content in the atmosphere to be higher. This is one of the factors in the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.
