SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi asked all parties to reflect on the tragedy after the Arema FC match against Persebaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java, Saturday, October 1 night which killed at least 127 people.

"Everything must be a self-reflection. Loss of life due to football riots like this must be the last time," said Eri Cahyadi quoting Antara, Sunday, October 2.

Eri said, if I may presuppose asking and praying, it might be better for Persebaya to lose than to have someone to lose their life.

"Once again, if we pray Persebaya lost last night. But we are all aware, no one knows what will happen. From Surabaya, we sent the best prayers for all victims. Al-Fatihah," said Cak Eri, his close call.

In addition, Cak Eri also appreciated Bonekmania for deciding this Sunday not to conduct a victory march.

"Humanity is far more important than the results of the match score," said Cak ending his writing.

It is known that the riot occurred after the East Java Derby match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya with a final score of 2-3 at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, Saturday night, October 1.

The chaos began when thousands of Aremania supporters burst into the field area after Arema FC lost. The riots grew even greater when a number of flares were thrown, including other objects. Joint security officers from the police and the TNI tried to dispel the supporters.

With the number of security officers not comparable to the number of thousands of Arema FC supporters, officers then fired tear gas in the field. The tear gas shot left many supporters fainting and difficulty breathing.

East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta said there were about 127 people who died in this incident. Two of them died, including members of the National Police.
