JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian encourages the integration of data for Indonesian citizens (WNI) abroad registered at the Embassy with data recorded at the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil).

This was conveyed by Tito in his remarks at a population administration service event for Indonesian citizens in Japan at the School of the Republic of Indonesia Tokyo (SRIT), Monday, September 26.

"One of the important documents for diaspora is an ID card, therefore we are collaborating with Mrs. Foreign Minister Retno, she is very enthusiastic about building cooperation with 38 of the 128 embassies in the world to connect a database with Dukcapil," he said.

Thus, Tito added, Indonesian citizens abroad do not need to return to Indonesia to extend their ID cards or register for birth certificates or family cards (KK).

"So, there is no need to waste money to Indonesia to extend your ID card, even data on birth certificates or deaths," said Tito, quoted by Antara.

He added, while processing data integration, his party also helped complete facilities and infrastructure and provide training at a number of these embassies.

Tito said that currently his party is also trying to make digital IDs, so residents don't need to bring physical e-KTPs because the data can be entered into smart phones and there is already a barcode.

According to him, digital ID is important especially for business partners, including with Japan, which is currently experiencing a decline in population.

This one data program is important for Indonesia to invite investors both foreign and local because we are experiencing very rapid growth, or pyramid because of the large younger generation. Meanwhile, Japan is experiencing minus population growth and many residents live in the city. We will only send this digital ID barcode to trading partners," he said.

However, the digital ID developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs is only found in the Playstore for the territory of Indonesia.

Tito assessed that data integration is also important to find out the exact number of Indonesian citizens abroad regarding the right to vote or political rights in the 2024 General Election.

However, he acknowledged that the integration of the data must be accompanied by a strict security system.

"We are tightening the security side really, don't let it be hacked. Until today our system is quite good," he said.
