JAKARTA - Ukrainian Ambassador to Indonesia Vasyl Hamianin spoke about how international law including humanitarian law can resolve human rights violations that occur during the war.

The war in Ukraine is still ongoing. I sincerely hope that all law students on this great campus can take on the role of how international law including humanitarian law can resolve human rights violations that occurred during the war," Ambassador Vasyl Hamianin said in a written statement quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 25.

This was conveyed by Ambassador Vasyl Hamianin when giving a public lecture at the UII Faculty of Law on Investigating Violations of Human Rights in War in Ukraine on Thursday 22 September.

This is very important, he continued, considering that currently both parties are not participants of the International Criminal Court and it is very difficult for world countries to take diplomatic channels to resolve this war.

"The law talks about justice. We Ukrainian people really want justice," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Legal Procedure for the FH UII Bachelor Program, Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto, explained that this public lecture emphasizes the extent of violations of international law that occur in Ukraine.

"I hope that from the academic community we can take action in accordance with our roles well by conducting research and actions so that the Government of Indonesia can play a more real role in promoting world justice," he said.

The activities of the second visit of the Ukrainian Ambassador to UII resulted in several cooperation ideas, especially to invite students and legal professors including the mufti in Ukraine to visit the UII Faculty of Law.

"We, God willing, also offer scholarship lines for the Crimean Tatar Muslim in Ukraine to study at FH UII because we have an International Program which is one of the main studies in the field of international law," said Dodik Setiawan Nur Heriyanto.

Ambassador Vasyl Hamiain gave a public lecture attended by hundreds of students, the majority of whom came from the International Relations Study program.

The public lecture with the theme "The Place of Ukraine in Geopolitics Transformations" was also attended by the Chancellor of UMY Gunawan Budiyanto and the ranks of the rectorate. Students look enthusiastic in asking questions.

Vasyl Ambassador's diplomatic visit in Yogyakarta ended at the Department of International Relations Fisipol UGM on Friday, September 23.

At UGM, Ambassador Vasyl spoke of tens of thousands of violations of war laws by the Russian side. More than a thousand children were victims, at least 389 were killed and 756 injured.

He said that students should not be lazy or afraid to dig deeper into information so as not to be misled by propaganda when reading a report, article, or hearing an explanation from an expert.

Whatever problem you are observing, please dig deeper. Diplomats are people who know how to dig up and recognize the root of the problem so they are not easily misled. The current war is not only a war of weapons, but also a propaganda war," he said.

He reminded that Russia's aggression against Ukraine was one possibility of an attempt to reconstruct a world system that began to move into unipolar after the collapse of the Soviet Union in late 1991.
