The Health Condition of a 17-Year-Old Student in Tasikmalaya Suspected of Being infected with Monkeypox Starts to Improve

TASIKMALAYA - The Tasikmalaya City Health Office said that a patient suspected of having monkeypox began to improve while still receiving intensive medical care in the isolation room of the Dr. Soekarjo Regional General Hospital Tasikmalaya.

"The patient's condition is improving", said Tasikmalaya City Health Service Head, Uus Supangat, in Tasikmalaya, West Java, as reported by Antara, Monday, September 12.

The patient is a 17-year-old student who is undergoing isolation at the hospital because he is suspected of contracting monkeypox with signs of fever and spots since last Friday, September 9.

The patient's status, he said, was declared a suspect, not yet positive for monkeypox because he was still waiting for the results of laboratory tests to determine for sure the patient's disease.

"We are still waiting for the lab results from the center", he said.

While waiting for the results of laboratory tests, the patient is still undergoing isolation under close supervision of the health team by health protocols such as those imposed in handling COVID-19.

The health team in the field also conducts tracing and travel history of the patient to detect whether or not there is transmission to other people who have been in contact with the patient. "We're tracing the neighborhood and his contact and travel history", he said.

He added that the suspected monkeypox case in the City of Tasikmalaya was the first case so it was a serious concern so that the epidemic did not continue to spread by taking quick action.

The public is advised to remain calm, not to panic excessively, especially to maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle, if you feel symptoms such as monkeypox as soon as possible check with a doctor or the nearest health facility.

"Immediately contact the health facility if there is a disease with similar symptoms, if there are relatives who are affected with a similar disease, avoid direct contact and do not use shared equipment", he said.
