JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) forcibly picked up the Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng on Wednesday, September 7 yesterday. He was uncooperative when questioned regarding the alleged corruption in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church.

"The Mimika Regent was previously forcibly picked up by the KPK investigation team because we considered that the person concerned was not cooperative during the process of investigating the case," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Thursday, September 8.

Ali revealed that the KPK had actually summoned Eltinus twice to be questioned as a suspect. This summons was made last June.

"KPK has sent a summons to the person concerned on June 10 and 17, 2022 but was not present," he said.

This reason brought Eltinus forcibly picked up. He and the KPK team are currently on their way from Jayapura, Papua to the KPK's Red and White Building.

"(The Mimika Regent, ed) will then undergo examination and the progress of this case as soon as possible, we will inform you after that," said Ali.

Previously, Eltinus had submitted a pretrial to the South Jakarta District Court even though his legal status had not been announced by the KPK. However, the application was rejected by the panel of judges.

The alleged corruption in the Kingmi Mile Church 32 phase one fiscal year (TA) 2015 construction project in Mimika Regency, Papua has entered the investigation stage. The project is estimated to cost around Rp160 billion.

Apart from Eltinus, there is another suspect in that case. However, the KPK has not detailed further.

Pengumuman pihak terkait sekaligus status hukum mereka bersama konstruksi kasus akan disampaikan bersama dengan upaya paksa penahanan. Biasanya akan dilakukan dalam konferensi pers.
