China Tuding The Powerful Party In Taiwan Businesses To Increase Tensions After The Drone Shooting

JAKARTA - China's Foreign Ministry accused the ruling party in Taiwan of escalating tensions after an unidentified civilian drone was shot down this week.

"The Democratic Progressive Party's efforts to escalate tensions mean nothing", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, said at a regular briefing, in response to questions about the drone's firing.

As previously reported, the Taiwanese military for the first time shot down a civilian drone entering its airspace near a small island located next to China's Xiamen City on Thursday, September 1. And this is also evidence of a pledge to take a crackdown on security disturbances.

The incident came after Taiwan repeatedly complained of abuse by drones arriving from China and flying right near Kinmen island. All of this happened when Beijing held military exercises around Taiwan.

The drone was shot down after entering limited airspace near Lion's small island, and plunged into the sea, according to the Taiwanese military.

Speaking to reporters, Taiwanese Prime Minister Su Tseng-chang said Taiwan had repeatedly issued warnings and asked 'they' not to violate the door line.

"They repeatedly ignored our warnings to leave and we had no choice but to defend ourselves and shoot. This is the most appropriate reaction after restraint and repeated warnings", Su Tseng-chang was quoted as saying by Channel News Asia.

Neither Taiwan nor China explicitly said the drone came from China.
