6 TNI Soldiers Become Suspects In Murder And Mutilation Case Of Papuan Mimika Residents, Heavy Sanction Awaits

JAKARTA - Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Tatang Subarna confirmed that the TNI will impose strict sanctions on six Indonesian Army soldiers suspected of killing and mutilating four civilians in Mimika, Papua.

"The TNI AD will give severe and strict sanctions to soldiers who have clearly tarnished the good name of the institutions and units of the Army, especially the soldiers involved in this murder case," said Tatang, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 29.

The determination of the suspect status of the six TNI AD soldiers was based on the results of an investigation by the military police who were ordered directly by the Chief of Army Staff (KSAD) General TNI Dudung Abdurachman.

General Dudung also ordered that the alleged murder of civilians in Mimika, Papua, be investigated thoroughly.

According to Tatang, the Military Police of Kodam (Pomdam) XVII/Cenderawasih has now carried out further investigations into the suspects. In particular, the Army Military Police Center (Puspomad) has also sent a team of investigators to assist Pomdam XVII/Cenderawasih in thoroughly investigating the murder case.

"Puspomad has sent a team of investigators to help Pomdam XVII/Cenderawasih investigate this case thoroughly," said Kadispenad.

Meanwhile, the civilian suspects, continued Tatang, were handled by the Mimika Police. Subdenpom XVII/Cenderawasih also continues to coordinate with the Mimika Police to uncover the involvement of Indonesian Army soldiers in the alleged murder of civilians.

Previously, the suspects were six TNI AD soldiers serving in Mimika Regency, Papua, undergoing detention and investigation at Subdenpom XVII/Cenderawasih, Mimika, for allegedly being involved in the murder of four civilians.

The two bodies of the four civilians were found in Pigapu Village, East Mimika District, Mimika Regency, Papua Province, on Friday (26/8) and Saturday (27/8).
