PPATK Monitors The Flow Of Online Gambling Funds In Indonesia Flowing To Southeast Asian Countries

JAKARTA - The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) continues to monitor the flow of online or online gambling funds in Indonesia, because these activities are increasingly widespread in society with increasingly sophisticated technological developments.

"Online gamblers are very good at eliminating traces through technological advances. They often change new online gambling sites, move around, change accounts, and even combine the results of online gambling with legitimate businesses," said PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana in a statement, as reported by Antara, Monday, August 22.

Therefore, Ivan sees the need for good cooperation between law enforcement officials and the community as the closest entity to online gambling and land gambling activities.

PPATK certainly collaborates with law enforcement officials by providing a number of financial intelligence information regarding the indicated flow of funds related to online gambling and simultaneously coordinating.

From PPATK's monitoring, the flow of funds indicated by online gambling flows to various countries in the Southeast Asian region, such as Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines. For this reason, PPATK has coordinated with financial intelligence agencies in the country.

In addition to these countries, the flow of funds indicated by online gambling is also suspected to have flowed to tax havens or tax havens, so it will be a challenge to trace assets whose value reaches hundreds of trillions per year and bring them back to Indonesia through repatriation.

Ivan added, that online gambling activities have become widespread because of the large demand for online gambling players in the community so online gambling providers continue to grow and easily change shape if their operations are detected by law enforcement.

The public is advised not to be tempted by various forms of online gambling and can work together to provide important information related to online gambling through the public complaint channels of law enforcement officials and PPATK money laundering complaints.

“Valid information will speed up the process of tracing the flow of funds. Therefore, community participation is important to reveal all parties who may be involved in the fertile growth of online gambling activities in Indonesia," he said.

In addition to the community, Ivan said collaboration with various related parties is also the key to the success of eradicating and preventing online and land gambling, such as the involvement of the Ministry of Communication and Information in monitoring and stopping a number of Electronic System Operations indicated by online gambling.
