August 18 Constitution Day, Puan Reminds Long-Term Development Planning

JAKARTA - In this moment of Constitution Day, August 18, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, spoke about the importance of Indonesia having a long-term development plan for the welfare of the people.

"So that there is a development direction to realize the ideals of independence contained in the constitution," said Puan in her statement.

The Commemoration of Constitution Day was held at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta. Constitution Day is a historic moment to commemorate Indonesia's constitutional system, one of which is the 1945 Constitution which became the Indonesian constitution.

"After the amendment to the 1945 Constitution, long-term development planning, as a comprehensive development direction and priority which is carried out in stages, is formulated in a law," said Puan.

The law in question is Law No. 17 of 2007 concerning the National Long-Term Development Plan for 2005-2025. Even so, according to Puan, the existence of this law in providing directions and priorities for national development as a whole is not optimal.

“Even every President, Governor, and Regent/Mayor has their own vision and mission of development. The vision and mission of the nation and state is replaced with the individual vision and mission of each president and regional head," he said.

"This reality has resulted in the national development of the Indonesian nation being difficult to sustain, short-term oriented, with different levels of national interest, so that it seems that National Development only goes from project to project," continued Puan.

Puan emphasized the importance of long-term development planning that can be realized through development politics for the progress of Indonesia in the future. Indonesia's Development Politics Indonesia is said to be able to fulfill independence which focuses on efforts for the welfare of the people, development progress throughout the country, and the development of national culture.

"Development politics requires stages of implementation, priorities, resource management, and national development planning," said Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture assessed that the development target should not only be physical development but also reach the development of the nation's character. Puan said that development politics is an effort through ways of thinking, working, and living in order to achieve progress and realize national goals.

"Political development in the future should be able to integrate all regions, all central and regional governments, in realizing people's welfare, national progress, and national culture," he said.

Puan added, in accelerating the achievement of Indonesia's progress, in addition to national social and economic recovery, future development needs to be directed at developing the quality and national character of Indonesian people. Then on the development of national food sovereignty, strengthening of national industry, equitable distribution of infrastructure development, and real bureaucratic reform.

"Of course this is in accordance with the constitutional mandate of the 1945 Constitution which guarantees the rights of Indonesian citizens," said Puan.

Puan then alluded to the statement of the Proclaimer and the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, who called National Independence the Golden Bridge. The Golden Bridge is called the bridge to a just, prosperous and prosperous Indonesia.

"Our nation and country have the idea of being independent, have the soul of the people to unite, have a rich equatorial emerald region, have the nation's cultural wealth," said Puan.

Furthermore, Puan also emphasized the importance of fulfilling the constitutional rights of citizens. Including the right for citizens to get space for people's participation.

“Constitutional rights guarantee the participation of citizens in articulating political rights, social rights, cultural rights and economic rights. It even provides a space for women's articulation in all fields,” said Puan.

The DPR invites all stakeholders to ensure that the constitutional rights of citizens can be fulfilled. Puan assessed that the stakeholders can consult together to determine the direction of the development of the Indonesian nation and state in the future.

"The DPR RI, in accordance with its constitutional authority, will continue to synergize with the Government and the community to accelerate the recovery of conditions in all sectors of life," he concluded.
