JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto stressed that Indonesia and Malaysia must remain united and move forward together for world peace.

This was conveyed by Prabowo when giving a speech after a meeting with Malaysian Defense Minister Dato' Seri Hishammuddin bin Hussein in the framework of the 42nd Session of the General Border Committee (GBC) Malindo, Tuesday, August 9.

"Good cooperation between neighboring countries is a valuable asset in maintaining the security and stability of the wider region," Prabowo said as quoted from a written statement.

"With the solidity between Indonesia and Malaysia, we can survive in a geopolitical world full of uncertainty," he continued.

Prabowo explained that Malindo was not just a routine meeting, but a strategic program because Malindo was born because of the awareness of Malaysian and Indonesian leaders that the two countries must hold each other tightly.

“Our two nations have been colonized for a long time by foreign nations. We are in the archipelago that is now Indonesia, which used to consist of many kingdoms. Malaysia, too, has been under colonial rule for a long time. They colonize us because we are rich, to take our wealth," he explained.

Prabowo also stressed that Indonesia and Malaysia must mutually strengthen good relations and cooperation between neighboring and allied countries to maintain stability in the region.

“I recommend all efforts to further strengthen relations with Malaysia. And I will strive to strengthen our relationship. Indonesia and Malaysia have a special relationship," Prabowo said.

Prabowo also expressed gratitude that Indonesia and Malaysia have owned Malindo for the past 50 years.

“I feel very honored and proud to be able to attend and commemorate the 50th anniversary of Malindo with my brother, Dato' Seri Hishammuddin bin Hussein. We are historical actors. Let's work for even stronger cooperation," he said.
