Build A Permanent Swing In The Core Zone, 11 Hotels In Gili Trawangan Lombok Violating Conservation Area Rules

NORTH LOMBOK - A total of 11 hotels in Gili Trawangan, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, violated the rules of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) for building permanent swings in the core zone and limited use of the national water conservation area without a permit.

A joint KKP team visited all hotel managers who built the swing in Gili Trawangan, North Lombok Regency, Wednesday, August 3.

The team consisted of personnel from the Kupang National Water Conservation Area (BKKPN) Working Area of Gili Matra, as well as members of the Monitoring Unit (Satwas) for Supervision of Marine and Fishery Natural Resources in East Lombok, Marine and Fishery Resources Monitoring Base (PSDKP) Benoa.

"So our focus today is to control the businessmen around the Gili Trawangan beach," said the Coordinator of the Kupang BKKPN, Gili Matra Working Area, Thri Heni Utami Radiman as quoted by Antara.

The authority of the Kupang BKKPN, she said, is to manage national water conservation areas up to the point of the highest tide. Therefore, as long as the permanent swing is in contact with sea water, the regulations on the conservation area apply.

Heni also emphasized that swings in the national marine conservation area, especially those in the core zone, are prohibited. This is because the core zone is a full protection zone and there should be no activities other than licensed education and research as well as for humanity in disaster situations.

The preservation of the core zone must be maintained because there are important ecosystem conservation targets that must be protected, namely seagrass beds, coral reefs, and various types of reef fish.

The Kupang BKKPN has visited all hotel managers on July 15, 2022, to provide education about the prohibition of building swings in the core zone of the national water conservation area and urges them to apply for permits if they want to build in a limited-use zone.

"So now we are visiting hoteliers who have swings in the core zone to immediately dismantle them because it violates the regulations. As for the limited use zone, we urge them to apply for permits, but first dismantle the existing swings because they are all illegal," she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the East Lombok Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision Satwas, Benoa PSDKP Base, Albertus Septiono, hopes that business actors have good intentions to dismantle the swings themselves because they have been given socialization and given a statement.

Her party will also try to handle each hotel owner in the form of taking the minutes of the inspection. Because, they have violated the area that has been designated as a national water conservation area.

"If they themselves try that this is mine and are willing to dismantle it, we will wait for the action and tomorrow we will wait for the answer from each hotel owner," he said.
