YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Transportation Service (Dishub) added two traffic light points that are connected to the area traffic control system or ATCS. At those two points, the ATCS lights are given additional speakers to provide warnings to road users.

Head of the Traffic Division of the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service, Windarto, said the effort was to improve the safety of road users passing through the area.

"We install it at the Pingit intersection and the Lempuyang Wangi intersection. It's in the process of being installed," he said in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, July 28.

Windarto said that the budget allocation for the City of Yogyakarta for the installation of all ATCS light points equipped with speakers or loudspeakers this year is around Rp. 600 million.

Apart from Pingit and Lempuyang Wangi intersections, ATCS light points with loudspeakers in Yogyakarta are located at the SGM intersection, Sentul intersection, Jalan Cendana intersection, Permata intersection, and Gondomanan intersection.

Yogyakarta City Transportation Agency hopes that as many as 52 intersections throughout the city of Yogyakarta can be connected to ATCS which is also equipped with loudspeakers with gradual procurement.

Through ATCS, it is possible to adjust the duration of traffic lights more easily because it can be directly controlled centrally according to traffic conditions in the field so that it can break down the queues of vehicles.

Determination of the location of the intersection that will be equipped with ATCS is based on the results of studies related to traffic conditions in an area or intersection.

Windarto added that the Pingit intersection is known to the public as having the longest traffic light duration among other intersections in the city of Yogyakarta and road users often complain about having to stop for a long time at a red light.

Meanwhile, at the Lempuyang Wangi intersection, traffic congestion often occurs during peak hours in the morning and evening.
