JAKARTA Tennis player England, Emma Raducanu, officially resigned from the ASB Classic 2025 event in Auckland due to problems on her back.

The 22-year-old athlete was supposed to face Robin Montgomery from the United States in the first half which took place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

After withdrawing, Raducanu immediately flew to Melbourne to continue his preparations for the 2025 Australian Open which will begin on January 12, 2025.

"I love Auckland and the fans here, but unfortunately I suffered a back injury and will not be ready on time," Raducanu said as quoted by BBC Sport.

The 2021 US Open champion previously suffered a ligament sprain in his leg when he appeared in Seoul in September 2024. The problem allowed him to only play three games later.

This latest problem makes Raducanu automatically face the first Grand Slam this season without direct training in competitive matches.

Raducanu had fewer injury problems last season so he only played 10 games after Wimbledon. He also missed the Miami Open in March 2024 due to back problems.

Currently Raducanu is partnering with the famous fitness coach, Yutaka Nakamura, who is already with him in Auckland.

"I just need a more specific approach. I need someone who is more dedicated to me as an individual and I'm looking forward to what will happen," Raducanu said earlier this month.

Raducanu is currently ranked 56th in the world and will not be seeded for the 2025 Australian Open.
