SOLO - Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka confirmed that he would take part in two carnivals on the night of 1 Sura or 1 Muharram, which were held by the Surakarta Hadiningrat Kasunanan Palace and Mangkunegaran Temple.

"Mangkunegaran first, that night at the palace. All invitations have been conveyed (to Gibran)," he said after receiving a visit from the Crown Prince of the Surakarta Hadiningrat Kasunanan Palace KGPH Purboyo in Solo, Central Java, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 26.

He said the 1 Sura carnival was the biggest annual event in Solo. According to him, the activity was held again after being suspended for several years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Gibran, the event was held not only to preserve Javanese culture but also to show that the city of Solo is currently in a safe state.

"Two years ago, the carnival was still limited, so tomorrow we will make it lively," he said.

Regarding the special preparations he made, the first son of President Joko Widodo said there was nothing special he did in order to welcome the carnival.

"Beskap is there, I don't have an inheritance," he said.

Gibran advised people who want to watch the carnival to continue to obey the health protocols.

"Keep wearing a mask, if you can, use a booster first. This has already reached 60 percent (the achievement of booster vaccination in Solo), not bad," he said.

Regarding the involvement of Kebo Caucasians belonging to the palace in the carnival, Gibran has not been able to confirm and will continue to monitor the health of the buffalo in the next few days.

This effort was made following several buffaloes belonging to the palace which are currently still exposed to mouth and nail disease (FMD).

"Anyway, we will monitor the next three days, the healthiest, the fittest (can join the carnival)," he said.

Meanwhile, KGPH Purboyo said that so far the preparations have been smooth. Regarding the condition of the buffalo, he said, the palace has been assisted by the related service for buffalo nurses.

"The hope is that the sick will recover quickly and can be released at night 1 Sura. We have also separated the healthy and sick buffaloes so they don't get infected. So far, there have been a total of seven affected, there has been recovery," he said.
