Residents Protested, DPRD Will Form Special Committee For Changing Street Names In Jakarta

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Mujiyono, said that his party would form a special committee (pansus) to explore the polemic of changing street names in Jakarta by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan.

Mujiyono said that the plan to form a special committee to change the name of the road was a proposal from the members of Commission A of the DKI DPRD. They saw many protests that came from residents affected by the change of dozens of street names.

"We will form a special committee regarding the change of name (roads), according to the recommendations from friends," said Mujiyono in his statement, Thursday, July 14.

As regulated in PP Number 12 of 2018, a special committee was formed in a plenary meeting at the suggestion of DPRD members. Members of the Special Committee are made up of at most 25 members, consisting of members of the relevant commissions proposed by each faction.

Mujiyono said that the special committee for changing street names was aimed at minimizing problems that would re-emerge in the future. Remembering, Anies once revealed that he would add to the list of street names for which name changes would be made.

"The formation of a special committee so that in the future this kind of incident does not happen again. This is just the initial stage of changing the name of the road. The next stage, he said, there will be many road names that will be changed," said Mujiyono.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission A DPRD DKI Gembong Warsono supports the formation of the Special Committee. According to him, policies that have a large impact on citizen documents have troubled the DKI Population and Civil Registration Office (Dukcapil).

"We have to find out the root first. Dukcapil is just a result, that's the problem. That's why the problem is not solved. So, only the special committee can solve this problem. If there is no special committee, it will not be completed," he said.

As is known, protests for the change of street names by the Governor of DKI Jakarta continue to emerge. One of them is a resident of Budaya Street which has turned into Jalan Entong Gendut in the Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta, expressing their complaints.

Then, a resident of RW 06 Tanah Tinggi Sub-district, Johar Baru District, admitted that he did not accept and refused to change the name of the street in his area to A. Hamid Arief Street.

In changing the name of Tanah Tinggi V Street to Hamid Arief Street, residents claimed that they had never been involved. Residents said, there was no deliberation or notification of the change of street name from the local regency.

There are also residents of RW 01 Cikini Urban Village, Menteng, Central Jakarta, who strongly reject the change in the name of Cikini VII Street to Tino Sidin Street. In fact, 6 RTs in RW 01 have made written statements regarding the refusal.
