Mayor Of Depok Proposes Greater Jakarta, Deputy Governor Of DKI: We Leave It To The Central Government

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria responded to the proposal for the formation of Greater Jakarta consisting of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, which was echoed by the Mayor of Depok, Mohammad Idris.

Riza said this idea was also previously expressed by the former Governor of DKI Jakarta, Sutiyoso. However, Riza admitted that the DKI Provincial Government cannot simply make decisions because this is the authority of the central government.

"We are grateful that the Mayor of Depok City proposed the Greater Jakarta area. However, regarding that, we completely leave it to the central government and other regions to discuss together," Riza told reporters, Wednesday, July 13.

In this regard, Riza also admitted that the policies implemented by Jakarta and the buffer zones cannot be completely separated. One example of the policy is the implementation of the PPKM level, the transportation system, to flood control in the form of river normalization.

From this proposal, Riza also asked the people of the capital city not to judge the idea of forming Greater Jakarta as a burden.

"Don't consider it a burden for Jakarta! Don't! They are our brothers and sisters together. Whatever problems exist in the buffer zone, that's what we have to solve," he said.

Previously, Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris suggested that the suburbs of Jakarta be merged into Greater Jakarta.
