BANGKA BARAT - West Bangka Regency in the Bangka Belitung Islands has zero COVID-19 cases. The local COVID-19 Handling Task Force asked residents to remain vigilant about the transmission of the Coronavirus.

"Even though there are zero cases, we ask residents to remain vigilant and follow health protocols to avoid transmission of the virus", said the Spokesperson for the West Bangka Regency COVID-19 Task Force, M. Putra Kusuma, in Mentok, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 12.

His party noted that today there were no new cases of confirmed COVID-19 patients and no more patients required to undergo isolation.

He said the two mandatory isolation patients who were declared quarantined today were from Tempilang and Parittiga sub-districts, one person each. A patient from Parittiga was confirmed positive on Sunday, June 26, while another from Tempilang on Tuesday, June 28.

"They have now finished isolating", he said.

Putra Kusuma added that during the COVID-19 pandemic in West Bangka Regency, there were 7,056 confirmed positive residents, 160 of whom died and 6,896 people were declared cured.

The most cases were found in Mentok District, 3,378 people, Jebus 1,132 people, Parittiga 904 people, Tempilang 873 people, Kelapa 419 people, and Simpangteritip 350 people.

He explained that until now the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, so people need to respond properly and wisely, one of which is to protect themselves so they don't get infected with the virus, by being disciplined in carrying out health protocols.

In addition, residents who meet the requirements are asked to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination to increase their immune system. Vaccination is beneficial for everyone because when contracting the virus, the transmission rate is not severe.

"(Vaccination, ed.) makes the body stronger so that it does not cause severe effects or symptoms (if infected with COVID-19, ed.)", he said.

Until now, his party is still providing free COVID-19 vaccination services to the public through various health care facilities.

"We are also assisted by the West Bangka Police (to carry out vaccinations, ed.) at the vaccination booth in front of the Jamik Mentok Mosque which is open every day", he said.
