Detention Center-BNN Kolaka Collaborate On Combating Drug Trafficking Among Prisoners

KOLAKA - The Class IIB Detention Center and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi signed a memorandum of understanding covering three aspects, namely prevention, eradication, and drug abuse in the prison environment.

Head of BNN Kolaka, Bentonius Silitonga, in Kolaka, Monday, July 11, said this step was taken to prevent and circulate drugs from inside the detention center and asked inmates to prevent and reject all kinds of drugs.

In addition, he said, early efforts were also made with urine tests for all employees and assisted residents to anticipate taking preventive steps.

"If found, then the BNN and the detention center must take preventive steps by checking the luggage of visitors and being screened", he said, quoted by Antara.

The next step, he said, is rehabilitation which is expected to be able to recover narcotics addicts and return them to the community and have social reintegration.

This activity, continued Bentonius, requires the cooperation of all stakeholders, not only the National Narcotics Agency and the detention center because the inmates who have been released from the detention center must receive better services.

"The government must prioritize humanity and concern for their lives, so they are no longer involved in drug trafficking", Bentonius said in front of several journalists.

The head of the Kolaka Detention Center, Tutut Jemi Setiawan, at the same place explained that the cooperation steps taken by his party with the National Narcotics Agency were not only intended for inmates but also all employees.

"Currently, from the 348 residents assisted by the Class IIB Kolaka Detention Center for drug cases as many as 173 people", he also said.
