Jokowi Targets Stunting Rate To Drop To 14 Percent By 2024

MEDAN - President Joko Widodo attended the culmination of the Commemoration of National Family Day (Harganas) in Merdeka Square, Medan City. In addition to talking about the impact of the pandemic and the Ukrainian war, Jokowi also asked local governments to think about stunting. 

Jokowi asked the public to be grateful and always pay attention to the nutrition of family members. Because in his opinion, children are future generations who will become the face of the country. 

"If the child is stunted, malnourished, how do you want to compete at the international level," said Jokowi, Thursday, July 7.

Jokowi revealed, based on 2021 data, the stunting rate in Indonesia has reached 24.4 percent. He targets that by 2024 the stunting rate in Indonesia will fall to 14 percent

"I want by 2024 the national stunting rate to drop to only 14 percent. The 2021 stunting data is already at 24.4 percent. In 2014 when I entered the stunting rate of 37 percent. So the decline is high, and by 2024 it should be 14 percent," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of North Sumatra (Gubsu) Edy Rahmayadi conveyed various problems, ranging from road repairs to stunting cases in North Sumatra.

"In family planning, we report North Sumatra, currently 24 percent of the president's father is still declared stunted. So if 100 babies are born, 24 babies still have stunting," said Edy. 

In the future, said Gubsu Edy, his party is determined to reduce stunting in North Sumatra to 12 percent.

"The biggest to 47 percent is in Madina, Deli Serdang 12 percent, Medan City 19 percent. We are trying and we understand this, together with the regent and the mayor agreeing to in 2022-2023 we press. God willing, up to 12 percent," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, has prepared a number of stunting prevention programs. 

This year, the Medan City Government has compiled 15 programs, 16 activities and 29 sub-activities of integrated stunting reduction interventions implemented by 10 OPDs and 30 urban villages. 

To carry it out, Bobby Nasution has poured funds of more than IDR 198 billion. Including village funds of more than IDR 1.9 billion. 

Meanwhile, for 550 stunting toddlers who are currently found in 20 sub-districts in Medan, a handling budget of more than IDR 14 billion has also been set.
