JAKARTA - As long as there are potential cases of COVID-19, vaccines are needed as a protective measure when the government makes booster vaccines as one of the requirements for people to attend public activities.

"So when the potential is still there, at a later time the case is still there, then one of the protection measures, of course, apart from the health protocol, is a vaccine," said PB IDI Chairperson M Adib Khumaidi in Jakarta, Monday, July 4.

Responding to a question whether the COVID-19 vaccine can be part of a routine vaccine program, he explained that the COVID-19 vaccine is one of the efforts to protect against diseases that attack the respiratory system. It's the same as other vaccines, such as hepatitis and meningitis vaccines, he said. "I think this will also happen later, while we look at the developments, including the possibility that there will still be several cases that will occur related to COVID-19, so it's not impossible that this vaccine will be used. become an effort to then become routine in a certain period," said Adib.

Previously, at a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto reiterated that people who will attend public activities must undergo a third dose of vaccination as a booster.

This is in accordance with the circular issued by the COVID-19 Task Force, namely Circular Number 22 of 2022 which is effective from June 21, 2022. On that occasion Airlangga also said the government had decided to extend the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) outside Java. and Bali will be extended from 5 July to 1 August 2022.
