JAKARTA - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin estimates that the rate of COVID-19 cases in DKI Jakarta Province will soon reach a peak in the near future.

"Jakarta is the most affected by Omicron. In my opinion, Jakarta will soon reach its peak," said Budi Gunadi Sadikin when delivering a press statement at the RI Ministry of Health Building, South Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, June 29.

Reflecting on the Delta wave that occurred in Indonesia in July 2021, Budi said, the peak of COVID-19 cases at the population level occurred when the dominance of virus variants was above 80 percent of the total population.

"It happened at the time of the Delta and the Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 Subvariants," he said.

Budi said that the results of the genomic sequencing research on more than 1,200 patients in Jakarta, were dominated by the Omicron variant. But the number of patients who were treated and died was relatively low.

"The number of 1,200 is a decent number, but only ten patients are admitted to the hospital. It's different when the Delta wave is full," he said.

According to the daily report of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, DKI Jakarta contributed the highest number of cases nationwide, reaching 1,134 patients. A total of 709 of them recovered and zero deaths.
