JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has prepared a strategy related to the increase in the price of sacrificial animals due to the outbreak of Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) in a number of regions in Indonesia.

"The government will take steps to overcome the FMD outbreak, apart from vaccination, it will also provide compensation to dead animals so that farmers don't lose too much," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, June 28.

Facing the spread of FMD, the government has distributed 620,700 doses of FMD vaccine to 19 provinces infected with FMD and to the Breeding Technical Service Unit (UPT) as of June 23, 2022.

The 19 provinces are Aceh, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Jambi, Riau, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, Banten, DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan. , South Kalimantan, Bengkulu, and DKI Jakarta.

However, the outbreak has increased the selling price of meat, including for sacrificial animals. According to the Secretary of the Indonesian Meat Traders Association (APDI) DKI Jakarta, the average trader selling live sacrificial cattle is between Rp. 63,000 - Rp. 73,000/kg, whereas in 2021 it will only be Rp. 58,000 - Rp. 63,000/kg.

If the live weight is calculated, cattle of 250-300 kg are sold at a price of Rp. 17-20 million per head, an increase from last year's sales of only Rp. 14-16.5 million for the same weight.

"If the sacrifice is light, according to the MUI fatwa, it can still be used. (If the animal) cannot be used, what is not allowed to be a sacrifice, then of course the government will bring in from areas that are not affected by PMK to help in places that are not affected by PMK. the shortage can be sufficient and the government will continue to check the price related to the price," said the vice president.

Price problems in the field also occur due to the implementation of regional lockdowns or "lockdowns" for areas with PMK red zone status for provinces whose sub-districts have been infected by more than 50 percent.

To overcome the outbreak, the government has also implemented a "ring vaccination" vaccination strategy, which is carried out by determining vaccination areas at a radius of 1 km, 3 km and 10 km outside the outbreak point. This aims to prevent vaccination of animals that have been infected but are still in the incubation period.

The strategy aims to protect vulnerable animals with high economic value and longer production lives such as breeders and dairy cattle and to limit the spread of animals that are frequently trafficked.

The first vaccination was carried out on June 14, 2022, starting in East Java. The next vaccination will be carried out in Central Java on June 18, 2022 starting from Sukoharjo Regency, and on June 20, 2022, vaccination will be carried out in West Java starting in Sumedang Regency.

Furthermore, starting June 24, 2022, vaccinations have also started simultaneously in 10 breeding UPTs, Regional Technical Implementation Units (UPTD), KUD Dairy Cattle, dairy cattle and beef cattle in smallholder farmers.
