It's Not True That The Traffic Police Will Fine Motorists Who Wear Flip-flops, It's Just An Appeal

JAKARTA - The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police has confirmed that it will not fine motorcyclists who only wear sandals and shorts while driving.

The issue of the ticket arose after Kakorlantas Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi opened Operation Patuh Jaya 2022. He asked two-wheelers not to wear sandals and shorts while riding.

"The narrative that the ticket will be ticketed is not true, there is no fine," said Dirgakkum, Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Aan Suhanan, when contacted by VOI, in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 15.

However, this statement is only a warning to the public. Because, flip-flops will not protect the rider's feet. However, using closed shoes or footwear can reduce fatalities in the event of an accident or impact.

"This is an appeal to protect motorists, especially R2 so that in the event of an accident reducing fatalities. All of our appeals are to protect the public," said Aan.

Kakorlantas Polri Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi had asked motorcyclists not to use modest footwear such as flip-flops when driving.

The two-star general also hopes that people will be more concerned with equipment when driving. The goal is to prioritize safety and prevent unwanted things from happening.

"Because if you use a motorbike, the skin is in direct contact with the asphalt, there is fire, there is gasoline, there is speed, the faster the more unprotected we are, that is fatality," said Firman.
