TANGERANG - A total of 500 cattle in the city of Tangerang have been confirmed to be infected with foot and mouth disease (FMD). This was also confirmed by the Head of the Tangerang City Food Security Service (DKP), Abduh Surahman.

"In Tangerang City, around 500 cattle were affected," Abduh said when confirmed, Tuesday, June 14.

Although many have been infected, Abduh said 60 percent of the hundreds of animals have been declared cured.

"(There are) 60 percent of the hundreds that have now recovered," he said.

Abduh said, as a form of anticipation so as not to spread the virus. His party has prepared dozens of veterinarians to check all the health of the sacrificial animals in all farms to sales stalls in Tangerang City.

"We also check the health certificate from the area of origin of the sacrificial animal. If everything is checked to be safe and according to standards, we will provide a sticker stating the stall is healthy," he explained.

He also explained that the animal health checks were carried out on a massive scale, in line with the findings of quite a lot of cases in Tangerang City. Abduh asked the public not to worry about the findings of FMD on animals in their area.

"The rest just have to pass the incubation period of the virus about 14 days after contracting. So, there's no need to panic, everything can be handled until it's declared cured. People don't need to hesitate to carry out sacrificial worship. It's just a matter of choosing the sacrificial animal intelligently and processing the meat perfectly," he concluded.
