Chinese Citizens Can Get 15 Thousand Dollars If They Give Information About A National Security Threat

JAKARTA - Good news for Chinese citizens. The pockets can get thicker just to report potential threats to national security.

So, China will offer its citizens $15.000 in cash that can report threats to national security. This is Beijing's latest move to stoke fear of external adversaries.

Citizens who provide information about suspected or potential behavior that endangers national security, can be rewarded with as much as 100.000 yuan. And it all depends on their role in preventing or solving a case.

The Chinese government has for years offered monetary rewards for information about security breaches. But new guidelines issued this week by the Ministry of State Security seek to standardize the practice.

The move is beneficial to mobilize the enthusiasm of the general public to support and assist the work of security officers. "Broadly garnering the hearts, morals, wisdom, and strength of the people", a ministry representative told Legal Daily quoted by Channel News Asia, Wednesday, June 8.

Beijing is increasingly encouraging the public to be aware of perceived national security violations, including teaching children to be alert to threats it perceives to threaten the country.

State broadcaster CCTV in April published a series of infographics asking readers to be on the lookout for prying eyes. His way of portraying the spy face includes people posing as romantic partners and plant lovers.
