BANDA ACEH - The Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) through the Sumatra I River Basin Center (BWS) repaired a number of points where the Krueng (river) Keureuto and Krueng Pase levees had collapsed in North Aceh Regency due to floods that hit the area late last year.

Head of Water Resources Division of the PUPR Office of North Aceh Regency Jafar said the PUPR Ministry carried out repairs to six points of the 11 points of the broken embankment proposed by the North Aceh Regency Government.

"The six points of the damaged embankment that have been repaired are in the priority category. The repairs have now reached 70 percent and are expected to be completed soon, so as to prevent the overflow of Krueng Keureuto and Krueng Pase floods in North Aceh Regency," Jafar said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 8.

The six points of the Krueng Keureuto embankment that were repaired were two points in Paya Beurandang Village, Tanah Luas District, and Blang Gunci Village, Paya Bakong District.

"Then there are four points on the Krueng Pase embankment in Samudera District, namely in Mancang Village, Teupin Ara Village, Baro Village, and Tanjong Awe Village," said Jafar.

Jafar said the embankment repair project was sourced from the 2022 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget.

Previously, he said, the North Aceh Regency Government proposed 11 points of the broken embankment to the PUPR Ministry for repair. The proposed repair budget reaches Rp. 73 billion.

However, he continued, the PUPR Ministry only realized the proposal for six points. The point of the embankment being repaired is categorized as a priority because it is an emergency.

Jafar said the repair of the embankment with a backfill system and cliff reinforcement. The repair of the embankment continues to be accelerated so that during the rainy season at the end of the year it can prevent river overflow.

"The North Aceh Regency Government expresses its gratitude to the Ministry of PUPR and the Sumatra River Basin for responding to the proposed repair of the embankment to prevent flooding," said Jafar.
