JAKARTA - The National Awakening Party (PKB) is discussing the formation of a new coalition in collaboration with central parties such as NasDem and Democrats. However, PKB wants to lead the coalition axis by nominating General Chairperson Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin as presidential candidates.

PKB is also willing to join other coalitions, such as the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB). Originally, Cak Imin had to be a presidential candidate (candidate). These conditions were said directly by Cak Imin himself.

In response, political communication observer at Esa Unggul University, Jamiluddin Ritonga, said that Cak Imin did not know himself. This is because Cak Imin's electability as a presidential candidate is still insufficient to fight other candidates.

Jamiluddin admitted that PKB's electability last April was in third place overtaking Golkar, but the competition was very fierce. Meanwhile, referring to the results of the 2019 legislative elections, Golkar is considered more appropriate to nominate a presidential candidate than PKB.

"The PKB seat in the 2019 Pilleg was under Golkar. Of course the political logic is that Golkar has the right to carry a presidential candidate over PKB," Jamiluddin told VOI, Friday, May 27. "It's different if the coalition is only PKB, PPP, and PAN, then PKB has the right to nominate a presidential candidate. According to Jazilul, Cak Imin's electoral position is at the top of the presidential candidate exchange at the level of party chairman. So that PKB is confident to be the leader of the coalition axis in the 2024 presidential election. "If PKB has a clear presidential candidate, there is already Mr. Muhaimin, so you don't have to bother measuring it from there. For example, Democrats, Mas AHY and Mr. Muhaimin, or vice versa," explained Jazilul .

"If we follow our instincts to read the 2024 presidential election well, in the context of the party, the highest electoral leader is only Pak Prabowo, only after that, Pak AHY, then Pak Muhaimin," he continued.
