2 Thousand Lanterns Fly In The Vesak Celebration At Borobudur Magelang

MAGELANG - Around 2,000 lanterns were flown in celebration of the Tri Suci Vesak 2566 BE at the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park, Magelang Regency, Central Java.

Head of the Waisak 2566 BE Lantern Flight Committee at Borobudur Temple, Agus Jaya, said the lantern flights were divided into two groups.

"The first lantern flight was carried out at 19.30 WIB and the second at around 22.00 WIB," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, May 16.

The lanterns flown this time are 90 centimeters in diameter and one meter high.

"The size and material of the lantern is a very safe standard, because the material is made of special paper and the frame is made of bamboo. At a certain height and the wick is lit, it will be more perfect, fly at a certain height and eventually burn, so it is clear," he said.

Agus Jaya said the lanterns were imported from Thailand. According to him, the lanterns cannot be flown above 23.00 WIB because the dew has already fallen.

"This lantern flight has received permission and when the lanterns are flown there are no flights at the airport," he said.

Agus said that every Vesak celebration there is a release of lanterns because this activity is part of the Waisak celebration ritual held by Walubi.

"The meaning of this lantern flight is universal, because it's not only Buddhists who can join, all religions can sit here, we pray that in this great temple many have a match, so this lantern flight event is a magnet for all participants of the Vesak celebration," he said. .
