NTT - Deputy Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Josef A Nae Soi asked residents of the island-based province to be aware of the hot dry season temperatures that are hitting the area.

He appealed to residents not to start fires in forests and land to prevent fire disasters.

"The air temperature in NTT is currently very hot, so it is necessary to anticipate various natural disaster events such as forest and land fires and the clean water crisis," said Josef A Nae Soi in Kupang, quoted from Antara, Sunday, May 15.

According to him, cases of forest and land fires that have hit NTT in recent years have reached 10 cases of fire and 42 drought disasters.

The forest and land fires occurred in several areas, such as in Ngada Regency, East Flores, Sumba, and Timor Island.

"This area is also prone to cases of forest fires in protected forest areas, so every district/city government in NTT must be aware of it," he said.

According to him, in addition to forest fires, drought also hits the area every dry season with 42 drought events.

"This drought has also resulted in a clean water crisis and crop failure due to lack of water for agricultural businesses," said Josef A Nae Soi.

He said NTT residents must preserve the natural environment so that water sources remain available and that during the dry season the supply of clean water remains sufficient.
