MANOKWARI - The Manokwari Police are still on alert for security in the capital city of West Papua Province until the arrival of the Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw.

Manokwari Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Adjutant of Police, Parasian H. Gultom in Manokwari, Friday, May 13, said the security alert was carried out by his staff to anticipate things that were not mutually desirable.

"Security activities will continue to be carried out until the arrival of the Acting Governor of West Papua in Manokwari, although with a lighter pattern," said Grand Commissioner Adjutant Gultom.

So far, he said, the safety and security situation in Manokwari is conducive and safe.

The safety and security situation in Manokwari had escalated from Wednesday, May 11 evening to Thursday, May 12 morning.

A group of people blocked a number of main roads in Manokwari City with stones and sand, and even burned tires on the road after learning that Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian had appointed Paulus Waterpauw as Acting Governor of West Papua.

However, the action did not last long. The joint TNI-Polri apparatus quickly removed the blockade so as not to interfere with the activities of the Manokwari community.

"The pattern of security that we carried out yesterday was by deploying troops and tactical vehicles to a number of vulnerable points in Manokwari. But in the afternoon we reduced personnel from all points because the situation was more conducive," explained Grand Commissioner Adjutant Gultom, quoted by Antara.

Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw is scheduled to arrive in Manokwari on Saturday, May 14, or Sunday, May 15.

On Tuesday (17/5), Paulus Waterpauw is scheduled to lead a joint gathering of all ASN West Papua Provincial Government and TNI-Polri ranks in the region at the Ceremony Field of the West Papua Governor's Office located in Arfai.
