Police Release PRP Spokesperson And 6 Colleagues For Lack Of Evidence

JAYAPURA - Jayapura City Police Chief, Commissioner Gustav Urbinas, said the spokesman for the Papuan People's Petition (PRP) Jefri Wenda, and six of his colleagues had been sent home because until now there was not enough evidence to proceed further with the law.

However, the case will still be processed by the police by conducting an investigation. If there is sufficient evidence, the case will be escalated to an investigation.

Initially, four people were sent home early in the morning, namely NI, MM, AD, and IK. Following Thursday, May 12 afternoon three people including PRP spokesman, Jefri Wenda.

The seven people who were arrested from the Perumnas IV Padang Bulan area, Tuesday, May 10 related to uploading (posting) an invitation or incitement to hold a demonstration on May 10, 2022.

"This case is still being investigated and if stronger evidence is found, the case will continue to be investigated so that they can be held accountable for their actions", he said.

The demonstration against the New Autonomous Region (DOB) which was scheduled to be held on Tuesday (May 10 was thwarted by the security forces because they did not have a permit from the Jayapura City Police.

A total of 1,181 TNI (Indonesian Army) and National Police personnel were alerted to disperse groups of demonstrators spread across several points in Abepura District and Heram District, Jayapura City.
