JAKARTA - Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Petrus Reinhard Golose, stated that the discovery of 179 kilograms of cocaine in the waters of the Sunda Bakauheni-Merak Strait was a new method. Currently, BNN is studying this case with interested parties in several South American countries as the country of origin of the narcotics.

"This is a new mode. We are still learning and I will also develop it, collaborating with South America including from Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, as well as other places in South America", said Petrus when met after the Easter event as well as Halal Bihalal at the Balai BNN Rehabilitation Center in Lido, Bogor Regency, West Java, Antara, Thursday, May 12.

Petrus said that before the findings by the Navy, BNN had begun to build relationships with several parties in South America regarding the circulation of cocaine through the BNN Deputy for Enforcement.

Cocaine, said Petrus, is a narcotic from South America, so communication with the government and the authorities there also needs to be done.

He explained that in the discovery of four illegal objects wrapped in plastic containing 179 kilograms of cocaine released by the Indonesian Navy at Fleet Command I, Jakarta, last Monday, a scientific investigation would be carried out to prove its origin.

So far, the authorities have not received any witnesses or couriers for the findings of the prohibited items. "For cocaine, it must have come from South America, but it must be proven from the results of scientific investigations", he said.

Petrus said that the evidence would be handed over to the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) to the National Narcotics Agency to research the cocaine in the laboratory.

"Hopefully with other investigative techniques we can see and we can anticipate", he said.

According to him, the cocaine discovery is a sign that the world is open and not just meth that has spread its market to Indonesia. The National Narcotics Agency, which will cooperate with the National Police, TNI, and Customs and Excise, will prevent the circulation of narcotics.
