This Is The Reason Why Workers Don't Hold The May Day Fiesta At Jakarta International Stadium

JAKARTA - The President of the All-Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, explained the reason the four labor confederations did not hold an action entitled May Day Fiesta 2022 at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

Andi explained that on Saturday, May 14, the labor group's action would be held at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) even though they were allowed to hold an action at JIS.

"On Saturday, we still decided to choose GBK for May Day Fiesta 2022. JIS, we confirmed that it was previously allowed, but we prefer Gelora Bung Karno", Andi said when met at the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue area during a demonstration, Thursday, May 12.

Andi explained that the reason his party preferred GBK as the location of their activities was because of the seating capacity in the stadium and the larger vehicle parking lot.

Remembering Andi, there will be around 65,000 workers who will take part in the activity from 12.00 to 17.00 WIB on Saturday.

"The capacity is bigger because of the mass of 65,000 workers. We also limit each bench, given a distance of one seat from one seat for physical distancing, for strict health protocols", said Andi.

Furthermore, Andi emphasized that the labor action at GBK would not invite political figures. Workers continued Andi, do not want their activities to be intervened with political elements by other parties.

"There are only labor figures because we believe that our struggle should not be intervened by any politician. So, we did not invite any political figures, especially Indonesian workers", he said.

For information, 18 demands will be voiced in the May Day Fiesta, namely:

1. Reject the Omnibus law on the Job Creation Act

2. Lower prices for basic commodities (cooking oil, meat, flour, eggs, etc.), fuel, and gas

3. Pass the PPRT Bill, reject the revision of the PPP Law, reject the revision of the SP/SB Law

4. Refuse low wages

5. Remove outsourcing

6. Reject VAT tax increase

7. Validate the RPP for the Protection of ABK and migrant workers

8. Refuse to reduce PBI health insurance participants

9. Realize food sovereignty and agrarian reform

10. Stop criminalizing farmers

11. Cheap tuition fees and free 15 years of compulsory education

12. Appoint teachers and honorary staff to become civil servants

13. Empowerment of the informal sector

14. Ratification of ILO Conversion No. 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work

15. Ojol drivers are workers, not partners whose work relationship is not clear

16. Carry out elections on February 14, 2024, in a fair manner and without money politics

17. Fair redistribution of wealth by adding social security programs (food security, housing, unemployment, education, and clean water)

18. There should be no hungry people in a rich land
