PADANG - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) West Sumatra proposed 3,283 prisoners as recipients of special remissions on Eid Al-Fitr 1434 Hijri.

"For this Eid, we propose 3,283 correctional inmates who embrace Islam as recipients of Eid remission," said Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of W Sumatra R Andika Dwi Prasetya, in Padang, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, April 26.

He said whether the proposed remission was accepted or not will be decided by the center and officially handed over on Eid al-Fitr.

"Remission is a reduction in the sentence given to inmates who are entitled and meet the requirements according to regulations," he said.

He said the proposed thousands of inmates came from 22 prisons or state detention centers in West Sumatra.

Most of the proposals for remission came from the Class II A prison in Padang as many as 573 people, the Class II A prison in Bukittinggi 498 people, the Class IIB Pariaman prison as many as 359 people, and the Class II B prison in Solok as many as 259 people.

While the rest have varied numbers with a maximum of 246 people from the Sawahlunto Narcotics Special Prison.

He said the proposed remission ranges from fifteen days to two months.

Meanwhile, 16 of the 3,283 inmates were proposed to receive special remission II (RK II) in the sense that they would immediately get out of prison after receiving remission.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Correctional Division of the West Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ali Syeh Bana, said that the three thousand inmates who were proposed as recipients of the remission were mostly involved in narcotics cases.

"Most of them are drug cases because sixty percent of the residents of the prisons or detention centers in West Sumatra are drug convicts," he explained.
