PALEMBANG - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of South Sumatra revealed that there are still prisoners who have not obtained a Population Identification Number (NIK). As a result, they cannot undergo the COVID-19 vaccination.

The Regional Director of the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Harun Sulianto, said that his party was assisting so that the inmates could get the COVID-19 vaccine.

"Until now, there are still quite a lot of prisoners or correctional inmates (WBP) who cannot be vaccinated because they have problems in the data collection process and do not have a NIK", said Kdi Palembang, Thursday, April 14, quoted from Antara.

He gave an example when the vaccination service was carried out to 1,175 inmates of the Class I Red Eyes Prison in Palembang on Wednesday, April 13 58 people had not been able to get vaccinated because they did not have a NIK.

To help hundreds of WBP scattered in several correctional institutions (Lapas) and state detention centers (Rutan) so far they cannot be vaccinated because they do not have NIK, his party is trying to coordinate with the Population and Civil Registry Office for data recording.

To realize communal immunity in prisons and detention centers spread across 17 regencies/cities within the South Sumatra region, his party is seeking 16 thousand WBP and prisoners to be vaccinated.

To carry out the vaccination, his party cooperates with the Health Service, Regional Police, and the South Sumatra Regional State Intelligence Agency (BIN) which have vaccine stocks and have the authority to organize mass vaccination services.

The Head of BIN for the South Sumatra Region, Brigadier General Armansyah, explained that the vaccination service carried out by his party together with the vaccinator team of the Health Service and the ranks of the Sriwijaya Military Command II was to support the acceleration of vaccination services in the local province.

The vaccination service is by President Joko Widodo's instructions, which gave the 2022 BIN vaccination target of 40 million doses and distributed to 34 BINs throughout Indonesia.

Specifically, in South Sumatra, it is targeting 300,000 doses every month or 10,000 doses every day to be distributed to the public through mass vaccination service activities, such as those carried out with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in several prisons and detention centers.
