Killing A Same-sex Dating Friend, A Man In Medan Is Sued For Life In Prison

MEDAN - Agung Sumarna Sarumaha (23) was sentenced to life imprisonment. The Public Prosecutor (JPU) assessed that the unemployed man was proven to have killed his male date, Benny Mangihut Parulian Sinambela.

"Ask the panel of judges to impose a criminal sentence on the defendant Agung Sumarna Sarumaha for life in prison", said Public Prosecutor Risnawati Ginting in an online trial at Cakra Room VII of the Medan District Court.

The burdensome thing in considering the demands is that the defendant's actions took the victim's life and caused sadness for the victim's family. While mitigating matters, the defendant was polite during the trial.

"The defendant's actions are legally proven to violate Article 340 of the Criminal Code (Regarding Premeditated Murder)", said Risnawati.

After listening to the demands, the presiding judge, Jarihat Simarmata, provided an opportunity for the defendant's legal counsel to submit a memorandum of defense (Pleidoi) at the trial next week.

In the indictment described, the incident began in October 2021 at the Mutiara Hawaii Hotel. On October 8, 2021, at around 16.30 WIB, the defendant Agung Sumarna Sarumaha met with Benny Mangihut Parulian Sinambela (the victim) near the Sky Garden discotheque.

They also played dice. Then, they went to the defendant's boarding house to get clothes.

"Arriving at the boarding house, the defendant took a shirt and put a machete knife into a paper bag. Next, the defendant and the victim went to a hotel and booked a room", said the prosecutor.

After that, the defendant and the victim had same-sex relations. After that, the defendant collected the promised money of IDR 300,000 from the victim. But the victim did not give it.

While the victim was sleeping, the perpetrator took a machete that had been prepared. The perpetrator stabbed a machete into the victim's stomach.

The defendant immediately fled using the victim's car and crashed into the hotel portal door. The defendant then fled to Aceh until he was finally arrested by the Medan Polrestabes team on October 13, 2021.

The defendant killed the victim because he was hurt by the victim's frequent kissing, hugging, and holding the defendant's stomach in public.
