Nurul Arifin Says Discourse On Postponement Of Elections Has Never Been On The Golkar Party's Political Agenda

JAKARTA - The Golkar Party fully supports the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) according to the agreed schedule, namely February 14, 2024.

This support is based on the results of a limited meeting between President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and ministers, on April 10.

"The Golkar Party strongly supports the decision of President Joko Widodo's government to hold elections according to the schedule agreed with the DPR and KPU, on February 14, 2024," said Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party for Communications and Informatics, Nurul Arifin in Jakarta, April 10.

Nurul also stated that so far Golkar has never been ambivalent in terms of postponing elections, including the Legislative Election (Pileg) and the Presidential Election (Pilpres).

"Golkar always adheres to the regulations," said the member of Commission I of the DPR RI.

Regarding the emergence of the discourse about postponing the election, the Golkar Party responds to it as the people's freedom of speech and opinion.

Regarding the aspirations that were conveyed by a number of oil palm farmers to the General Chair of the Golkar Party in Riau, last February 24, regarding the extension of President Jokowi's term of office, Nurul stated that these were the aspirations of the people.

“For Golkar, it is just a discourse and the aspirations of the people. We from the Golkar Party accept it as a form of input. We respect it. However, it was never on Golkar's official agenda to propose an extension of the presidential term or postponement of the election," said Nurul.

Nurul also stated that so far Airlangga Hartarto had never expressed his agreement to postpone the election or propose an extension of the presidential term.

In fact, the Golkar Party continues to make efforts and efforts to continue to socialize towards the 2024 general election and presidential election.

"At every opportunity, we from the Golkar Party, including the General Chair, Mr. Airlangga, continue to socialize the programs we have made for the 2024 Presidential and Legislative Elections," said the member of the DPR from the West Java I electoral district.

The last evidence is the meeting and friendship between the management and cadres of the Golkar Party throughout West Sumatra with the General Chairperson of Golkar Airlangga Hartarto and other members of the Golkar DPP board.

"Obviously at the meeting, we stated that we were ready to fight in the 2024 Legislative and Presidential Elections, and carried Airlangga Hartarto, the presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election," said Nurul.

Through this statement, Nurul hopes that the public will know and understand the position of the Golkar Party that officially supports the presidential and legislative elections to continue to be held on February 14, 2024, and the Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on November 27, 2024.

Nurul also stated that Golkar supports President Jokowi's statement that wants the entire community not to be provoked by political issues, and not to raise issues of identity politics in the upcoming general election.

"The Golkar Party also hopes that the implementation of the Legislative and Presidential Elections as well as the 2024 Regional Head Elections will run well, orderly and will produce national leaders who can be accepted by all the people," concluded Nurul.
