JAKARTA - The Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) Tirta Bhagasasi Bekasi wants to form a special team to reduce the level of water loss or leakage during the production and distribution process in the pipeline network.

"Yesterday I asked to immediately form a handling team, during a visit to Rawa Tembaga, Bekasi City, which is the branch office that contributes the biggest leakage for our company," said President Director of PDAM Tirta Bhagasasi Bekasi Usep Rahman Salim in Cikarang, West Java, Thursday, April 7, quoted from Antara.

Loss of water is one of the problems faced by regional drinking water companies in general, including what often happens at PDAM Tirta Bhagasasi.

Usep claimed to have instructed every leader in all branch offices and sub-branch offices along with all their employees to work optimally and coordinate with each other to overcome this problem.

"I have ordered 13 branch heads and 13 sub-branch heads in both the city and Bekasi district to be able to overcome this water leak, one of which is by forming a special team earlier," he said.

After being formed, he said, the team is tasked with collecting data on points that are prone to leaks to be reported and followed up with a gradual replacement of the pipeline network.

The team can also take action against perpetrators of illegal connection connections. "If you have a PDAM account, the perpetrator of the illegal connection must pay the bill until it is paid off, but if you are not a customer, the sanctions will be followed up by the Bekasi District Attorney," he said.

He advised that the team would later be able to work as well as possible in reducing the level of leakage. Thus, there will be an increase in revenue that can be recorded due to efficiency.

Currently, it is known that the level of water loss in PDAM Tirta Bhagasasi Bekasi is between 27-30 percent. The main causes are the technical age of the pipes, the pipeline network being disturbed by road widening, and vehicle pressure.

"Because most of the pipeline network is on the side of the highway, which is always being passed by heavy tonnage vehicles," he said.
