JAKARTA - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that Indonesia is ready to transition from pandemic to endemic if public awareness of their health increases.

"As long as people are more ready to realize what to do to face this pandemic, it shows that we are ready to transition from pandemic to endemic," said Minister of Health Budi in a press statement at the Limited Meeting of PPKM Evaluation which was followed online in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Monday, April 4.

He hopes that the current improvement in the COVID-19 condition in the country will also be followed by the responsibility of all levels of society.

"The health of this pandemic is in each of our hands," he said.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ministry of Health noted that the number of active cases on Monday, April 4, fell by 5,755 cases to 90,235 active cases.

The number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 today recorded an increase of 1,661 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed positive cases since March 2020 in the country to 6,021,642 people.

Meanwhile, the number of patients who recovered from COVID-19 transmission nationally today increased by 7,355 patients, bringing the total to 5,776,058 people.

Previously, the Head of the Task Force for Handling COVID-19, Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, hoped that after Lebaran 2022 the condition of COVID-19 cases would not be like after the previous long holiday, where there was a significant increase in cases, which was exacerbated by the presence of a new variant.

"There is a significant increase in cases, maybe we will think about changing the status of the pandemic to being endemic," he said.

The COVID-19 Task Force hopes that the Indonesian people can go home safely and carry out the fasting month of Ramadan in peace, while maintaining maximum and layered protection against themselves and their families by vaccination.
