MPR Chair Condemns Violence In Papua, Asks Apparatus To Restrict KKB Actions

JAKARTA - People's Consultative Assembly Chairman, Bambang Soesatyo alias Bamsoet, strongly condemns the acts of violence carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) against civilians and members of the Indonesia Army (TNI)/National Police in Papua.

Bamsoet considered the need for extra security for the people in Papua, so as not to cause unrest in the area, including involving local traditional leaders.

"Indonesia Army (TNI)/National Police officers need to carry out appropriate and measurable strategies to reduce and resolve problems in Papua, especially related to acts of terror that have not subsided, by carrying out and involving Papuan traditional leaders or heads in every action", said Bamsoet in a broadcast. press in Jakarta, Tuesday 29 March.

He believes that with the cooperation between the Indonesia Army/National Police and traditional leaders or heads in Papua, the Indonesia Army/National Police can develop appropriate strategies to reduce acts of terror and violence in Papua.

On the other hand, Bamsoet assessed that the Indonesia Army/National Police apparatus needed to narrow the space for the KKB by strengthening security operations, especially in areas prone to acts of terror.

This is to minimize attacks by KKB, as well as to create a safe and conducive situation in Papua.
