JAKARTA - A member of the Indonesian Wantimpres, HR Agung Laksono, has asked the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI)'s decision to dismiss Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto in accordance with a recommendation from the Indonesian Doctors Association (MKEK IDI) Honorary Council for Medical Ethics to be reviewed.

This is because IDI's decision to dismiss Dr Terawan actually received rejection from the public who considered IDI to be an arrogant and unfair institution. According to Agung Laksono, Terawan actually helped tens of thousands of people by developing the Nusantara vaccine made by the nation's children to reduce the production of imported vaccines.

"IDI is a respected medical professional organization, don't let the decisions made by IDI lead to negative opinions from the public regarding the dismissal of doctor Terawan. Especially now that there are voices in the community who say that IDI is arrogant and unfair to doctor Terawan," said Dr. Agung Laksono, through a written statement, Monday, March 28.

For this reason, Agung Laksono who is also the former Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare (People's Health) hopes that IDI will annul its decision not to fire Doctor Terawan.

"Without further interference, IDI's decision should be reviewed and annulled. If there are deficiencies or administrative problems, they can still be corrected, not immediately dismissed," he said.

Personally, Agung Laksono deeply regrets IDI's decision to dismiss Dr Terawan. He assessed that the former Minister of Health was a doctor who had contributed a lot to the community and the nation.

"Doctor Terawan is a good person who has done a lot of services in the community as well as providing innovation for the medical world in the country and even internationally. But how come this feels like he is being beaten like a big enemy," he said.

On the other hand, as a professional organization that is authorized by law, continued Agung Laksono, IDI should be able to better protect and nurture its members and be open to various innovations in the fields of health, pharmacy, and medicine.

"Was it wrong for Dr. Terawan to be permanently fired? Doctor Terawan was not a malpractice or committed a crime. In fact, tens of thousands of people were helped by him by developing the Nusantara vaccine, which was made by the children of this nation to reduce the production of imported vaccines," he explained.
