JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia has resolved 823 cases throughout Indonesia with a restorative justice (RJ) mechanism.

Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum), Fadil Zumhana, at Attorney General's Office explained that the settlement of the case was based on Prosecutor's Regulation Number 15 of 2020 concerning Termination of Prosecution Based on Restorative Justice.

"This termination was carried out selectively by the prosecutor's office", said Fadil during a hearing with House of Representatives Commission III at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 23.

He explained that the case was led by Jampidum every day. The settlement received a positive response from the community, as evidenced by the large number of cases requesting to be resolved through restorative justice.

"Jampidum has issued technical instructions several times, the last of which was circular letter number 01/02 2022", he said.

Fadil said the guideline was to expand the total value of losses, not being limited to a figure of IDR 2.5 million. The party sees that the potential for losses in a crime can exceed this figure, but it can be resolved through a mechanism for reconciling an apology and peace from the victim.

In addition, the Attorney General has launched a restorative justice home program in March 2022. The formation, he said, can be a means of resolving cases outside the trial.

According to Fadil, RJ's house is essentially expected to be a trigger to revive the role of traditional, community, and religious leaders to jointly promote peace and harmony and increase public awareness of others who need justice.

"However, it does not rule out legal certainty", he emphasized.
