Nawawi Pomolango Reveals Reasons For KPK To Ensnare Regents And Mayors: High Community Reports, Mainly Regarding Strategic Projects

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango said that many regents and mayors had recently been named suspects because of reports from the public.

He said that most of the incoming reports, said Nawawi, were related to strategic projects in the regions.

"I once asked the Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK, why does it seem as if the KPK only arrests the regent or mayor? It turns out that because the reports of public complaints are so high lately, there are many things related to it. Mainly in relation to the procurement of strategic projects in an area," Nawawi said in a statement. written statement, Wednesday, March 23.

Nawawi reminded that at this time it is important for all parties to participate in preventing corrupt practices. Moreover, it is impossible for the anti-corruption commission to run alone to carry out its duties.

By collaborating with many parties, Nawawi believes that corruption prevention efforts can be carried out.

"KPK cannot possibly go its own way in eradicating corruption. Eradication of corruption must be carried out as a group. We must join hands to create synergy," he said.

"Although the KPK currently only has 1,500 employees, the KPK has eyes in all corners of the country," Nawawi added.

Nawawi also said that the KPK often conducts studies and provides recommendations on policies that 98 percent of which have been implemented by the central government.

Among them are studies related to the PEN Program. In the study, the KPK found, first, the lack of clarity on priorities. Local governments do not prepare adequate planning documents for activities financed from loan sources.

Second, there is no regulation on the utilization of the remaining Tender Proceeds (SHT) so that it is possible to use SHT outside the allocation in the Lending Agreement document. Third, the lack of supervision. The inspectorate is weak in mitigating the risk of corruption.

Nawawi asked the local government to follow the lead. Because, whoever is a state administrator and law enforcement officer who is corrupt will be snared.

"KPK is limited to two legal subjects, namely Law Enforcement Apparatus (APH) and State Organizers (PN). Other parties outside of that can become KPK legal subjects if they are jointly proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption with the APH and the PN," he concluded.
