JAKARTA - Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds has the potential to occur in several parts of Indonesia on Sunday, March 20. This includes West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), a province that is currently working on the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP at the Mandalika Circuit.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds is predicted to occur in the Provinces of Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Jambi.

Furthermore, high rainfall intensity accompanied by lightning and strong winds also occurred in Lampung, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to NTB. occurred in the provinces of West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, Gorontalo, Papua, and West Papua.

The BMKG explained that the cyclonic circulation was observed in the Arafuru Sea which formed a confluence area or a slowing of wind speed (convergence) that extended in West Papua, the Arafuru Sea and on the southern coast of Papua. Other convergence areas were also observed in North Sumatra, Mentawai Islands, southern Sumatra. , Central Kalimantan, central Sulawesi, Banda Sea, and NTT. According to the BMKG, these conditions are able to increase the growth of rain clouds around the center of low pressure/cyclonic circulation and along the convergence area.
