JAKARTA - Various ways have been done to relieve the trauma of children in refugee camps at Simpang Timbo Abu, Talamau District, West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra. One of them is by teaching reading the Qur'an in refugee camps.

"This activity is one of the efforts to entertain children affected by the earthquake. By reading the Qur'an, short letters and Alfatihah with a cheerful delivery," said a teacher from the volunteer Asia Muslim Foundation or AMCF (Asia Muslim Charity Foundation) Muhammad Ali in evacuation site, Antara, Sunday, March 6th.

According to him, this is the first time this activity has been carried out and has received a good response from the children and parents who took refuge in the emergency tent. Dozens of children attended the recitation together by reciting the holy verses of the Qur'an and short letters such as Alfatihah and Surah Al Ikhlas.

During the activity, the children affected by the earthquake looked cheerful and eager to follow the guidance of their supervisor.

Some are serious about following by holding the Koran and some are playing games but still listening to the guidance of their guide.

"Essentially, we want to teach children to read the Koran in a cheerful way. How do children get rid of post-earthquake trauma," he said.

One of the children who participated in the Dika refugee camp (14) said that he was very enthusiastic about participating in the recitation held by volunteers at the refugee post.

"Yes, sir, very good and quite entertaining, while adding to the memorization of short verses of the Koran," he said.

The head of Simpang Timbo Abu Youth, Dodi, said that the refugees are still living in refugee camps.

"There are about 56 tents with 130 displaced families still surviving. About 107 children, 17 babies and 4 pregnant women," he said.

So far, the logistical needs of refugees have been met, both from the assistance of the central, provincial, district governments and donations from benefactors.
